Definition of Torture from Websters:
"the infliction of intense pain (as from burning, crushing, or wounding) to punish, coerce, or afford sadistic pleasure"

From Pew Research:
"A new poll released Sept. 11 finds that nearly 57% of white Southern evangelicals believe torture is justified...The findings of this poll, which did not define torture, compared to a Pew Research Center poll from February that found that 48 percent of the general public think torture can be justified...Researchers also found that 65 percent of white Southern evangelicals support McCain, 14 percent support Obama and 21 percent remain undecided
