TW: We all now it is merely a matter of time. Obama has a material lead in the polls a month prior to the election. Perhaps some day a Republican will face a deficit in the polls and end a campaign without the mudfest but I really do not think this will be the year...
From Politico: "Sen. John McCain and his Republican allies are readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations, several top Republicans said."
"McCain's advisers say the Arizona senator will ramp up his attacks in the coming days with a tougher, more focused message describing "who Obama is," including questioning his character, "liberal" record and "too risky" proposals in advertising and appearances."
Both suggest McCain is to hit Obama on Tony Rezko and Bill Ayers, suggesting that Jeremiah Wright may still be off-limits. Wright, in the eyes of many Republicans, is the closest thing they have to a silver bullet. But going there would surely bring cries of outrage and reams of oppo from earlier in the spring when McCain denounced the North Carolina GOP for using Obama's pastor in an ad.McCain may still be reluctant to drop the Wright bomb, but should he ultimately go there it's worth noting that he has already cracked open the door."
