TW: We agree with the Savage side of this discussion with Tony Perkins. I believe the Prop 8 "defeat" will represent a key inflection point whereby gay marriage will become more accepted. A lost battle will evolve into a strategic victory as the movement is energized and the opposition marginalized.
Despite the understandable impatience and frustration of our gay friends, I believe their rights and more importantly their acceptance into US society has made more strides in my adult lifetime than any other movement. While rights can and should be bestowed by courts, their true victory will emerge when the majority of voters enact legislation to codify their rights. While they lost the Prop 8 battle, they will win the war shortly.
