TW: I mentioned yesterday that turnout is a perennial meme that usually ends up greatly overstated. We may have set new records for overstatement this year. These are the numbers so far:
2008
Obama 62.5
McCain 55.5
Total 118.0
2004
Bush 62.0
Kerry 59.0
Total 121.0
Obviously the 2008 numbers may grow as final returns are counted but at best it looks like total voting will be the same as 2004. Folks were predicting 130 to 140MM. It will be interesting to learn what drove the lower numbers.
