Things I Like - Chicago

Friend of ours from France visited Chicago for the first time a couple summers ago. In addition to finding our city friendly, beautiful and clean (did I mention they were currently living in New York?), they also really enjoyed the Art Institute.

Well, they need to come back next summer to check out the new Modern wing scheduled to open in May 2009. I'm not a huge fan of modern art, I prefer the type of art where your mind can figure out what you're looking at and why. But the new wing itself is a piece of art, at least from the inside. Overlooking Millenium Park, the glass walls on the north side of the building give you an amazing view of the Park and the Pritzker Pavillion.

The skylight in the main atrium gives the new wing a completely different feel from the closed in and artificially lit original building.

And there will be a new restaurant in the Modern wing - they haven't named it yet but they have selected Tony Mantuano of Spiagga as the executive chef.
