TW: Have spoken before about how anyone serious about fiscal reform must understand how much federal money goes to a handful of programs (social security, medicare/medicaid, defense and interest). The chart (click on to enlarge) above provides a nice perspective. So while the next couple of years will not be about balancing the budget (unless you really what to get all Herbert Hoovery or should we re-name it W. Bushie), keep in mind whenever you complain about how if the government would just get more efficient, you really need to focus on the big programs to make a material difference. Which one would you cut?
