TW: As we prepare for Tuesday's inaugural, one knows Obama's veneer will slowly begin to rub off as the exigencies of governance take precedence. So I thought some look backs on why he was elected in the first place would be relevant.
1) The New Yorker endorsement of Obama from October. There were hundreds of endorsements but this one was the best and provides a good reminder on why he will be inaugurated Tuesday

2) New Yorker piece profiling former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel. The Bush White House shunned him. These are the type men Obama embraces. A big difference. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/11/03/081103fa_fact_bruck
3) This piece from Int'l Herald Tribune last September focused on how the U.S. had fallen so far internationally-"neither respected, nor feared". Obama's mere election immediately changed the tone, now he will have the opportunity to change the substance.

4) NYT's Nicholas Kristoff's reflections on what Obama means to the US and beyond
