Things I Like - Art

The art of photography has come a long way since Nicephore Niepce took the first permanent photograph in 1825. This landscape, "View from the Window at Le Gras" was taken the following year and is the oldest known surviving photo.

The first photos were informative - taken to record an image, rather than created as art. As the process changed and improved, the photographer learned to use light and composition to add an artistic element to in the image.

Today, we have digital cameras and editing tools that can be used to create photographs that may or may not resemble the original object being recorded. How can you tell what is an actual image vs. something that's been modified?

The photos below were taken by French artist Valeri Belin. Are they photos of mannequins or real women? Life or Art imitating life?
