Did you ever wonder where some of our product logos come from? Neatorama had an interesting post the other day, discussing the history and stories behind 10 famous food logos.
In addition to the Quaker Oats logo, you'll find Betty Crocker, the Gerber baby, the Morton Salt Umbrella Girl and Aunt Jemima. Of these 5, only the logos for Aunt Jemima and the Gerber baby were based on an actual person. The others were drawings or composites of multiple models. Just a bit of trivia.
So why pick a Quaker to represent your product? The company owners weren't Quakers themselves, they just liked the idea of purity that the figure represented. I think that Quakers had a bigger presence back in 1877...
