Things I Like - Sciences

Well that didn't take long. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu gave an interview last week and made it clear that he and the Obama administration are going to push efforts for climate control. One of the key strategies of their fight against global warming is public education. Per the Chicago Tribune article by Jim Tankersley, Secretary Chu stated:
"I don't think the American public has gripped in its gut what could happen...We're looking at a scenario where there's no more agriculture in California...(and)...I don't actually see how they can keep their cities going".
FYI, California is the country's biggest agricultural producer.

The BBC had some interesting graphics on their site - a map showing projected availability of water on a per-capita basis world wide made by Martina Floerke and colleagues at the University of Kassel in Germany. Lots of factors go into the projections and much can change but the overall message is clear: we need to do something soon.

Starting point: 1961 - 1990's

Ending point: 2070's

Check out the BBC link above for more detail and projections for the years in between. It's time to get educated.
