Memorial Day (cont.)

From C. Trent Rosecran's blog (Cincy Reds blogger):
"[recently] you may have heard of the Army soldier who shot and killed five people at a counseling center in Iraq. One of the five people killed was a friend of mine, Keith Springle.

The Springles were our neighbors in Japan when I was in high school, and then Keith was getting his PhD at Alabama when I lived in Tuscaloosa. I can honestly say, Keith was one of the kindest, most caring men I’ve ever met. Keith was always concerned about those who serve and their families. Both my sister and I participated in surveys he administered for his research about military children. His son, Charlie, is a U.S. Marine, as is the husband of his daughter Sarah and father of the grandchild he never got to meet.

And then there’s Susan, his wife of 26 years and one of the strongest people you’ll ever meet. She’s the epitome of a Navy wife and all that goes with it. She’s an amazing woman — and they were an amazing couple. I must say Keith was a role model as a friend, father and husband.

The one thing I know about Keith was he was extremely dedicated to helping those in the military deal with everything they were going through and helping destroy the stigma attached to counseling and therapy for those in uniform."
