Things I Like - Chicago

Mr. White is a bicycle enthusiast – me, not so much. Maybe because I had to ride my bike to my summer job(s) all through high school. Had I been working outside, this likely would not have been so unpleasant but there’s nothing like arriving all sweaty and windblown for a day of phone calls (time-share telemarketing), linen-folding (local hospital) or salad bar maintenance (The Ponderosa Steak House). I have many skills…

Things are different for bike commuters in Chicago – they have access to the Bike Station in Millennium Park.Opened in 2004, the station is located at the northeast corner of the park (Randolph & Columbus).
The 16,448-square-foot heated facility includes free indoor parking for 300 bikes, showers and lockers, bicycle rental and repair, and a café…The $3.1million bicycle station serves not only bike commuters and recreational bicyclists, but also runners and inline skaters…Bicycle parking spaces are available free of charge. Cyclists can pay a small fee to use the locker rooms and showers with bike parking. Other amenities include bicycle rental, snack bar, an internet station and guided bike tours. Monthly and annual memberships are also available.

So go ahead and bike or skate or run to work – you can clean up before making your way to that desk and pile of paper that’s waiting for you.
