TW: I wondered where those single barred football helmets had gone. Turns out they have been banned. The punter above, Scott Player, was the last player allowed to wear the single bar as he was grand-fathered into the rule but lost his job last year. They were apparently concerned about safety although actual injuries attributable to the single bar were scarce. Product liability issues on helmets are a big deal as well and likely had as much to do with the ban as anything. Regardless, the single bar reminded me of one of my all-time favorite players- Garo Yepremian of the 1970's vintage Dolphins. The one and probably still only bald, Cypriot football player, who also made an infamous pass during the 1973 Super Bowl.
