Things I Like - Food

I just got back from visiting my sister Amy in Colorado Springs. It was a lovely week – we did some shopping, saw a movie, went out for lunch and cooked....a lot:

Bean and sausage stew, spaghetti sauce, chili, Ropa de Vieja, BBQ pork and 4 different soups. Some of it (lettuce, pumpkin, carrots, zucchini and tons of herbs) came out of their fabulous garden; most of it went into the freezer.

Actually, I might have done all the cooking while she rested up after her chemo round. But I left all the recipes and I’m sure she’ll be cooking up a storm in the coming months. Regardless, it was a very productive week.

Unfortunately, I came home kind of cooked out. No interest whatsoever in making dinner or freezing the latest basket of tomatoes that Mr. White harvested while I was gone. But do not fear, he has not gone hungry. Whenever I have no interest in cooking, we either order out or I spend some time on one of those food porn sites. I likely won't make any of the below, but they certainly put me in the mood...to cook again.

Cookies with Royal Icing fromSweetopia

Stuffed Eggplant from Froodies
Onion Rosemary Flatbread from Better with Butter
Gorgonzola and Pear Tart from Pease Pudding
Shells with Lemon Anchovy Cream Sauce from Rossa di Sera

Ahh, I've been meaning to follow up:

Had the wedding soup that weekend. Very tasty meatballs.

On Monday, before leaving for my protein infusion, I put one of the big frozen chili's in the crockpot and put rice in the cooker. I didn't get back with the kids until 6 PM and the whole house smelled delicious. Dinner was served in 2 minutes.

And Bryan had lunch to take the next 3 days. :)

Good chili, BTW. I know you made it less-spicy for us. FYI, this is about as spice as I can tolerate. :) But VERY good for such a cold, damp week.

Thanks again!
