Things I Like - Art

The current season of Project Runway started airing last month. I love the challenges where the designers have to create fashions using unusual materials.

Ivano Vitali would do well with the paper challenge. All of the items here and those pictured on his website are made from paper.

From Susan Lomuto at Daily Art Muse:
Italy’s Ivano Vitali is a sculptor, ecologist and performance artist whose work is a nod to a time when manual labor was appreciated and celebrated. He rolls and twists newspaper pages - piecing them together with no glue or water - then knits, crochets and weaves dresses, suits, hats, shawls, abstract objects and tape-estries with the paper yarn that still bears the colors and text of the newsprint pages.

Mantellina giallo - Yellow Cape
Cape made with knitting needles and thread obtained from yellow headline-bills

Sole che splende - Sun shining 2006
Waistcoat (2003), skirt with bomb-on (2006) and necklace of short sticks made with the newspaper "Il Sole 24 ore"

Okay, this is under the "art" heading - so I can assume these paper garments are art pieces to be admired in a museum. Surely not to actually be worn - what happens if you're caught in a downpour? - Mom
