My sister Amy forwarded this link to Let's Say Thanks, a website sponsored by Xerox and others that offers anyone with an internet connection the ability to send a postcard to American troops serving all over the world. I've always wondered about these things - as in, does it really mean anything to the troops? Given some of the message responses on the site, it seems clear that it does:
I just sent a card - it takes 3 minutes. You pick out a design, select a pre-written message (or write your own), add your name and city/state and submit. There's no political message and no request for donations. Xerox prints the cards and they are included in care packages prepared by Give2theTroops (another organization that would be happy to take donations if you're interested - http://www.give2thetroops.org/). The cards are sent to troops currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or Asia . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services."Thank you so much for the post card. It is so nice to receive things in the mail here. Some would not believe it but the simple good feeling of going to the company mail room and the clerk saying 'Yes, you have mail' is an uplifting experience. Great post with a link to a great site! And I agree with your other reader that you need a spin-off to your own space--or at least a way to set your posts apart from those of that other guy. YOUR posts uplift, bring a smile, provide something new and fresh to think about (and you've only just begun!)
That OTHER guy's posts. . . well. . .they don't do these things.
