The Elephant Parade

London is one of my favorite cities - so much history, culture and great food... Well, two out of three isn't bad and the food has definitely improved since the days of bangers and mash.

This year, London is hosting the Elephant Parade -
...a social enterprise founded by father and son Mike and Marc Spits. through their exhibitions, they aim to raise support for the Asian elephant, which is threatened with extinction. The benefits of the Elephant Parade are donated to the Elephant Family, the largest elephant charity in the world.

From May through July this summer, the city of London will be filled with over 250 elephants that have been painted by artists and celebrities who support the effort.

Looks like there's another reason to visit the ancestral home of our founding fathers - a chance to see the Elephant Parade.via wejetset

Once Upon a Time

Another photo from Shorpy at 84 Mulberry Street in NYC's Little Italy (dated 1900). Do yourself a favor and click on the photo to enlarge - you will not believe the detail.

btw - the link above to Shorpy has additional info in the comments below the photo including a colorized version. Someone posted a picture from an old book that shows the Beneke Bros. building at the corner of Canal and Mulberry. Use the Google map to take you to that spot now - newer is definitely not better in this case.
